Gotha is a tiny town nestled between Windermere and Ocoee. Founded in 1885 by a German immigrant, H.A. Hempel, the town's main street is named in his honor, Hempel Ave. It has no stoplights, no commercial buildings and no fast food restaurants. If you are searching for quiet Florida living with a laid back country feel, this is your place to call home.

In the early 1900's, horticulturist Dr. Henry Nehrling, began purchasing land in Gotha and created the now popular tourist destination, Palm Cottage Gardens. He used it as a testing facility and experimental garden which helped establish Florida's ornamental horticulture with various plant species such as bamboo, lilies and orchids. Locals spend time volunteering as well as enjoying art strolls through the gardens and other events throughout the month.

The town features a popular locally owned restaurant, called Yellow Dog Eats. It's an eclectic, pet friendly BBQ joint that smokes all the meat on premise with apple wood. Make sure you stop in and order the pulled pork nachos. You won't be disappointed.
